Night Hunter

The black-crowned night heron is a heron-like bird that is especially active at night. Its red eyes help it see enough at dusk to catch prey. It then stands dead still near the water to pick up its food with its sharp beak. During the day, on the other hand, it prefers to hide in a tree.

Quack-quack

If you listen carefully to this bird you will understand how it got its Dutch name. Its call can be described as 'kwak-kwak'. In English it is called Night heron, which can be translated as 'night heron'.
