Sustainability
At AquaZoo Leeuwarden, we let people see and experience the beauty of nature. To protect nature, we try to make all kinds of facets in our park as sustainable as possible.
Green Key
Green Key is the (international) seal of approval for sustainable businesses. On Friday, January 19, 2018, our hard work was rewarded. Namely, we were allowed to receive the Green Key Gold certificate (the highest attainable). View our CSR Statement.
Hospitality
Sustainable food and drink
AquaZoo's restaurants serve Puro Fairtrade coffee and Lipton Rainforest Alliance tea. So in our park you can enjoy delicious hot drinks responsibly and sustainably. Besides sustainable coffee and tea, other sustainable products are also available in our restaurants. For example, we serve organic tomato soup, croquettes and frikadellen. And many more of our products carry a Fairtrade or Better Life label! For this, AquaZoo also received a special Fair Trade certificate from the Municipality of Leeuwarden.
Durable cups and plates
All drinks and all food are served in sustainable cups and on sustainable plates. For example, the paper cups are made from sustainable FSC wood and the plates are made from palm leaves.
Sustainable cleaning
Only environmentally friendly cleaning agents of the EU Ecolabel label are used in the kitchens of AquaZoo's restaurants.
Sustainable feed for animals
Hay and kibble
The animals at AquaZoo are fed only sustainable hay and kibble. No pesticides are used in the production of hay and kibble, and minimal fertilization is done. In addition, the hay and pellets are transported to AquaZoo by trucks with minimal emissions.
Sustainable fish
The fish for the penguins and seals, for example, carries the MSC label, which stands for sustainably caught fish from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
Separating waste
At AquaZoo Leeuwarden, wood, iron, debris and plastic waste is separated. Also, swill waste is separated.
