Caring father

After the female lays eggs, the male takes them to a safe place. He takes them to a pool of water in the armpit of a bromeliad. Once the eggs hatch, the father takes the tadpoles to a deep pool of water where the young can continue to grow.

Small world

In the wild, blue poison dart frogs live in the rainforests of Suriname. They live in wet, not too warm areas near running water. The rainforests where blue poison dart frogs occur are often just small patches of forest surrounded by grasslands. They are like islands. Poison dart frogs remain in the patch of rainforest where they were born all their lives.
