Males of the Long-snout seahorse have a pouch on their abdomen. The female lays her eggs in this. Sometimes as many as 1,600 at a time. The male then fertilizes the eggs and incubates them in his pouch. Fourteen days later, the tiny young seahorses are born.

Bad business

Long-snout seahorses are not doing so well in the wild. Many seahorses end up in fishing nets as bycatch. Seahorses are also frequently caught to be sold as pets. They are also caught and dried and sold as souvenirs. Fortunately, more and more tourists know that you should not buy souvenirs made from animals.
