AAP Foundation

The Raccoons you see at Aquazoo come from the AAP Foundation. This European organization is committed to a better future for exotic mammals in Europe. For example, some of the raccoons in this enclosure were found in Limburg, while raccoons do not originally live in the Netherlands. Yet many escaped and released raccoons live here, kept for their fur or as pets. Now some of these animals may enjoy a new home in our park.

Sleeping in

The Raccoon does not hibernate. Sometimes the weather is bad and temperatures get too low. The Raccoon may then go to rest for an extended period of time until temperatures improve again.

City resident

The city turns out to be a good habitat for the Raccoon. There is plenty of human waste there that the raccoon can still eat from. Up to 69 raccoons sometimes live in one square kilometer of city.
