  • Largest marsupial

    The red giant kangaroo is the largest marsupial in the world. Males have no pouch and are the only kangaroo with reddish fur. Females and young have a blue-gray coat color.

    Underdeveloped

    Immediately after birth, the still underdeveloped kangaroo cub crawls to the pouch where it sucks on a nipple and continues to grow. After eight months, the cub leaves the pouch and then drinks milk for another three months.
