AquaZoo collects Christmas trees for new Churchill educational area
Christmas trees with root ball do not have to go to the wood chipper after the holidays, but can get a second life in AquaZoo Leeuwarden, just like previous years. One free ticket is handed out per spruce handed in.
The Frisian Zoo will plant the trees in the new Churchill area, which is expected to open in the spring of 2024. Education will play a very important role in this area. Stories about native species, invasive exotic species and climate change will soon be told here in an inspiring and educational way.
General manager Jeroen Loomeijer: "How nice is it that we get to dress this area in a sustainable way? In the park there are already many trees from previous years. It is good to see that these trees are now growing and taking the shapes we often see in nature. And it's absolutely fantastic knowing that the trees would otherwise have ended up in the landfill."
The submission time will take place on Tuesday, January 2 between10 a.m. and 3 p.m.. The free ticket is valid through Feb. 16, 2024 and isnot redeemable for cash.

- One Christmas tree is one free ticket to AquaZoo;
- Maximum of 1 Christmas tree/free ticket per person;
