AquaZoo and the Elfsteden Bijenlint Fryslân celebrate Fête de la Nature together!
AquaZoo Friesland and the Elfsteden Bijenlint Fryslân are jointly celebrating Fête de la Nature, the largest grassroots nature festival in the Netherlands, on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21. At AquaZoo Friesland, visitors can help make the Elfsteden Bijenlint Fryslân on Saturday, and a bee hotel will be opened on Sunday. Children can also build their own bee hotel on both days, participate in a coloring contest and a scavenger hunt.
About eighty percent of the world's food crops depend on pollination by insects. This makes bees indispensable to nature. Among other things, the use of poison in agriculture and by citizens, too few contiguous food areas and decline of wild flower and plant species ensure, that almost half of all 358 wild bee species in our country are on the red list of endangered species.
Bee hotel and bee ribbon
To support the wild bee in the Netherlands, a bee hotel will be opened at AquaZoo Friesland during this coming weekend's celebration of Fête de la Nature. Also, visitors can help initiator Marijke de Bie of the Elfsteden Bijenlint Fryslân sow a bee ribbon, which is a chain of initiatives that benefit bees (warmth, food, shelter, nesting opportunities, nesting materials). The full program of Fête de la Nature can be found at the events page
