AquaZoo reopens Wadden area with wonder education
The Wadden area at AquaZoo Leeuwarden has been given a metamorphosis. The space containing two aquariums with underwater animals from the Wadden Sea has been thematically decorated and provided with surprising education. As of Saturday, Feb. 17, the space is open to visitors.
General Manager Jeroen Loomeijer: "At AquaZoo we naturally tell wonderful stories about nature and species conservation in the regions of the Amur River in Asia and soon Churchill, the longest river in North America. But just steps away from AquaZoo is an equally fascinating ecosystem and also UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Wadden Sea. We also want to tell that special story to visitors. We are very happy to have the space open for spring break!"
In 2020, AquaZoo's collection was already supplemented by the underwater animals of Wadden Experience Center De Noordhoren. In early 2023, AquaZoo officially opened the doors of the Wadden area for the first time. At the end of January 2024, its doors were temporarily closed to give the Wadden area a metamorphosis.
Loomeijer: "The visitor will soon learn everything about the Wadden area. Upon entering, one reads what the Wadden is only to be immersed layer by layer in the interesting biodiversity of this immense area. Every subject is covered: ebb and flow, wadden birds, shells, mussels and you name it."
Spring Action
During spring break from Monday, Feb. 19, through Friday, Feb. 23, there is a special promotion to help pake and beppe through the vacations. For every paying pake, beppe or other paying adult, two children (up to 15 years old) will receive free admission to AquaZoo.
