AquaZoo builds largest aviary in northern Netherlands
Starting April 8, the inhabitants of AquaZoo's new aviary can be admired. This, 1,500-square-meter enclosure will house the following species: cormorants, Dalmatian Pelicans, Indian stripehead geese, white-winged wood ducks, little egrets, white-necked cranes and European quacks.
Most of the aviary consists of water, making it a typical AquaZoo enclosure, said Stephanie Jessen, chief zookeeper. The animals can now exhibit their natural behavior even better.
The aviary was built entirely by the in-house facilities department.
The indoor enclosure of the African penguin has also been refurbished, in cooperation with Stichting Wildlife. An educational section on Sancobb will open there soon. Sancobb is dedicated to the welfare of African seabirds such as the African penguin.
