Blackfoot penguins at AquaZoo Friesland already have spring jitters

The blackfoot penguins at AquaZoo Friesland are busy trying to find a mate! Many nests are being made, and some penguins have already laid several eggs. Because the penguins have only been at AquaZoo Friesland for a short time, it is special that they are already so busy looking for offspring.

Practice

It is a good sign that they are already so busy with this, the animals really seem to feel at home in the far north! The penguins are only sexually mature for the first time this year, so it is still a bit exciting whether the eggs are actually fertilized, probably now it is mostly practice for them.

Nest making

To stimulate breeding, the penguins are offered nesting material by the keepers. The keepers also keep a close eye on which penguins seem to like each other and if they might even make a nest. We will of course keep you informed of all developments!
