Children make Christmas gifts

Children get to play Santa Claus at AquaZoo Leeuwarden on Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year. In fact, young visitors can craft presents for the animals in the park that day and then help the animal caretakers hand them out.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day, children up to age 12 can make presents for their favorite animals. The presents will consist of boxes decorated by the children, which will be filled with vegetables or fruits.Starting at 1:30 p.m., the presents will be crafted and filled with yummy things. These activities will take place in the restaurant; there is no charge except for a valid admission ticket. Starting at 2:30 p.m., the gifts will be taken to the animals' enclosures with the animal caretakers and handed out there.

Doing Extras

"We also like to do something extra for our animals at Christmas," says Jeroen Loomeijer, general manager at AquaZoo. "Such a wrapped gift with some special food is not only nice for them, but also provides a nice extra challenge."

For the children, Loomeijer says it is a special opportunity to give the animals an extra treat. "It is usually the caretakers who take care of the feeding and enrichment anyway. Now they can make something really nice themselves for their favorite animal and, moreover, immediately see how it is received. Surely that is a very nice experience."
