Ice age at AquaZoo officially opened: "Mammoth wake up!"
Two classes from Group 3 of Elementary School de Pionier opened the Ice Age exhibit at AquaZoo Leeuwarden. The children did so by calling the mammoth awake. Up to three times they shouted, "Mammoth wake up!
The children were very impressed when the mammoth actually woke up. Teacher Jessica van der Werf: "The children are currently learning all kinds of things about the ice age and prehistory at school as well as that the animals are almost all extinct. The lifelike mammoth left some children wondering if it was real. Very impressive!"
Children's timeline
To explain to children how long ago the ice age was, a special timeline has been developed. General manager Jeroen Loomeijer: "In everything we do at AquaZoo we want to give visitors, both young and old, something to remember. Through the timeline we hope to make the children realize how long ago the ice age was. It's nice to see that the younger kids are so impressed!"
The Ice Age can be visited from Friday, March 29 through Wednesday, May 29. Upon entering, children will receive an educational scavenger hunt. During the weekends, volunteers from Stichting Wildlife will tell all about the Ice Age through objects on loan from Natuurmuseum Fryslân.
