AquaZoo goes back in time with new temporary exhibit: Ice Age

A new temporary exhibition about the ice age will be on display at AquaZoo Leeuwarden in the spring. Friday, March 29 through Wednesday, May 29, more than twenty lifelike animals from the Ice Age will be on display.

This is the first time that AquaZoo is dedicated to the ice age. General manager Jeroen Loomeijer: "Many people don't know it, but the ice age left quite a mark in the area around AquaZoo. As a result of climate change, almost all animals of that time are extinct. We like to share these lessons with our visitors!"

The educational aspect is not only reflected in the life-size ice age animals with accompanying information boards, but also through a timeline for children. Loomeijer: "Using the timeline, 'long ago' becomes more tangible for the children. Upon entering, the children also receive an educational scavenger hunt to do in the park and a fun coloring page to take home."

Collaboration
AquaZoo has also sought cooperation with Nature Museum Fryslân. "On weekends, volunteers from Stichting Wildlife tell all kinds of stories using objects from the ice age, such as a piece of mammoth tusk and molars from the cave lion. The objects are on temporary loan from the Nature Museum. You really can't get any closer to the ice age!" Loomeijer said.

The exhibit is included with an admission ticket.
