Polar bears Felix and Nanu to AquaZoo Friesland
AquaZoo Friesland is preparing for the arrival of polar bears Nanu and Felix. The male polar bears are expected to arrive at the Leeuwarden zoo on June 24 and 27, respectively.
On Friday, July 8, the special opening of the newly built polar bear enclosure will take place in the evening, exclusively for annual pass holders and invited guests. From July 9, Felix and Nanu will then be on display for all to see.
Polar bear Felix in pool
Swimming pool De Blauwe Golf in Leeuwarden temporarily symbolically accommodates polar bear Felix during the first weeks of June. All children who graduate at this location during this month (June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30) will receive a free ticket to AquaZoo Friesland during the graduation ceremony. Of course, they can also have their picture taken with Felix and Blue Wave mascot Weevie. Naturally, ice cream will also be eaten. After all, polar bears and children love ice cream!
Denmark/Ouwehands
Polar bear Nanu is 3.5 years old and comes to AquaZoo Friesland from the Scandinavian Wildlife Park in Denmark. Felix is 14.5 years old and moves from Ouwehands Dierenpark to the beautiful new enclosure in Leeuwarden.
Half a million
The polar bear enclosure has an area of about 5,000 square meters and required an investment of over half a million euros. AquaZoo Friesland wants to continue investing in the coming years. From 100,000 visitors per year now, the park first wants to grow to 150,000 and later possibly 200,000 visitors per year. "We will therefore continue to invest in this park. Friesland deserves a beautiful zoo with appealing animal species. We also want the Frisians themselves to be proud of AquaZoo Friesland, "said park manager Jeroen Loomeijer, who for 2017 bets on the arrival of hippos and Nile crocodiles.
