Population of AquaZoo Friesland increases dramatically overnight

AquaZoo Friesland is in full swing. Developments within the zoo follow in rapid succession. All with one goal: to give visitors a great day out and to ensure that all of Friesland is proud of the park. The Leeuwarden park is also taking part in the 'Help Pake & Beppe through the vacations' campaign during the spring vacations.

AquaZoo Friesland now has a new site manager in the person of Jeroen Loomeijer. He explains the most recent developments at the park: "We continue to invest to take the park to an even higher level. For example, the aquariums in the Binnendoar route are being refilled with special fish. You can already see 500 cardinal tetras and 225 piranhas. This means that the number of animals in AquaZoo Friesland has tripled in one fell swoop. The piranhas are now only three centimeters long, but they will grow to fifteen centimeters. Soon, black pacus and freshwater peacock rays will be added."

Splash spectacle

The brand new sea lion enclosure is almost ready and will open before Easter. Loomeijer says, "In one of the largest sea lion enclosures in the world (1.5 hectares), visitors will then be able to enjoy, from a stand, the Spetter Spektakel in which our sea lions play the leading role with both educational elements and a feeding presentation."

Coming polar bears

The arrival of polar bears is the biggest project at AquaZoo Friesland this year. "Soon the actual construction of the polar bear enclosure will start. If everything goes well, the opening will take place in June. Even before the summer vacations," says Loomeijer.

Pake & Beppe action

AquaZoo Friesland is pleased to announce that during the spring vacations it is participating in the action of Museum Federation Fryslân: 'Help Pake & Beppe through the vacations'.
