Ring-tailed lemur born at AquaZoo Friesland!

At AquaZoo Friesland, ring-tailed lemur Ambony gave birth to her first cub! The cub came into the world after 4.5 months of gestation and is doing well. In the first weeks, the young lemur is still completely dependent on mother's good care and is clinging to her belly.

Father Rico does not interfere much in the upbringing, leaving this task to the cub's mother and aunts. Ambony and her cub reside in both the indoor and outdoor enclosures, so you can already come for a maternity visit!

Joyful expectation

Most likely, more ring-tailed lemurs will be born soon, as keepers expect more females to be happily pregnant! For the first few weeks, the young lemur is still clinging to its mother's belly. Then the youngster moves to her back and already begins carefully exploring the world around him and playing with his peers.

Endangered species

AquaZoo is very happy about this birth, and therefore hopes that the other lemurs are actually expecting! Ring-tailed lemurs are unfortunately threatened in the wild, mainly due to the disappearance of their habitat. To preserve the species, a European Breeding Program for ring-tailed lemurs in zoos has been established. Thus, births of this species are very positive for the breeding program!
