Sea Lion Splash Spectacle takes shape
The four sea lions who recently arrived at AquaZoo Friesland and moved into a new wetland enclosure of no less than 1.5 hectares show themselves from now on during an educational presentation. The presentation - which visitors can follow daily from 4 p.m. onwards from a grandstand - is a prelude to the more elaborate Spetter Spektakel for which the sea lions are currently in training.
The sea lions Xiho and Titus are two adult males. They were recently introduced to the young sea lions Teun and Sjaak (born in 2015) who came over from the Nuremberg Zoo in Germany.
Splash Spectacle
The brand-new sea lion enclosure is one of the largest sea lion enclosures in the world. In the Splash Spectacle - which includes educational and playful elements as well as a feeding display - the sea lions take the lead role. Caretaker Lisa Schurman has been working with the sea lions for some time and is extremely proud of her four men: "They learn quickly and pick up the training well. The Splash Spectacle is thus taking shape step by step. Together with Xiho, Tinus, Teun and Sjaak, we want to teach visitors something about sea lions in an interactive way."
